Marchwood Siemens, as part of their £380m project, awarded the Concrete Works Package to our Civil Engineering Division at their new 842 megawatt natural gas combined cycle (CCGT) power plant, at Marchwood near Southampton. Careys constructed the foundations to 34 buildings and the platforms for the two gas turbines and a steam turbine. The 2.5m deep platforms were constructed on 12m high columns, contained 2,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel and required continuous 18 hour 1,500m3 concrete pours. |
